Having good credit is an essential tool in today’s economy – it allows you to have a credit card, to obtain car and house loans, and many other conveniences. While you can live without good credit, a bad credit rating will certainly affect you negatively throughout your life. The key to your credit rating lies with a credit bureau. There are a handful of credit bureaus in North America that handle all reports – positive and negative – from creditors to create a credit report specific to you. If you have a poor credit history, you must take steps to engage in credit repair, and one of the first and most essential tools is to learn how to effectively deal with your credit bureau.

Credit repair begins with determining which credit bureau holds your file. To do this simply look at any rejection letter from a credit application – the letter, in refusing you credit, will indicate which bureau proved the rating. The next step is to obtain your credit history. Keep in mind that legally it is always free to obtain your credit history if you have recently been denied credit, although many organizations will imply that it is not. The only time you should pay money for a credit report is if you want to receive it instantly, in which case credit bureaus will provide an instant online report for a fee.

When dealing with a credit bureau, understand that they are in the business of collection and selling information. For this reason, it is in your interest to never provide them with any information that is not legally necessary. Legally, you only need to provide a credit bureau with your name, social security number and legal address in order to obtain your credit report. The bureaus may request a copy of your social security card, and – if the address they have on file is different from your current one – a copy of something proving your address. Although they may ask for a driver’s license to prove your address, send them a copy of a bill showing your address. The reason you want to be cautious when dealing with credit bureaus is that they own many collection agencies, and if you have a credit problem you want to give them as little information as possible with which to harass you with.

Once you have received the report, examine it closely for any errors. If anything is in question, send a written request for an investigation to the credit bureau. Legally, the onus is on the credit bureau to document anything on your credit report – if they cannot document it within 30 days, it must be removed. This is the basic strategy of many credit repair companies that charge exorbitant fees: challenge everything negative. In many cases if the negative item is more than a few years old it will be difficult to verify and the item will be removed.

By learning to properly deal with a credit bureau you can engage in effective credit repair that other companies change high fees for. By educating yourself as to the legal obligations of the credit bureau, you can, in many cases, repair your own credit quickly and effectively.

Building your credit history is important in today’s time, especially since the laws are changing. We are moving into a system that is making it difficult for us to get ahead unless we have excellent, or at most good credit history. Credit is important to rent, obtain student loans, and apply for loans or credit cards, as well as getting jobs.

Nowadays if you do not have a major credit card, it is nearly impossible to make purchases at some areas. Bad credit only leads to frustration and headaches we want to avoid. If you have bad scores on your credit report, it takes seven long years before the credit is cleared and ten years for bankruptcies to be removed from your files. Therefore, if you want to save yourself some headaches it is time to get started building your credit history.

To build credit you have to keep constant watch of the activities on your credit report. To obtain copies of your credit report you need to contact the three B’s. TransUnion, Equifax and Experian have updated copies of your reports. To find out more information go online to get the information needed to get your copies. After you review, your credit reports make sure there are no false claims against you on the report before you proceed to clear up your accounts. If you notice, any false claims make sure to file a dispute immediately with each credit bureau. You are protected under law and it is the credit bureaus obligations to investigate the claims and clear up any mishaps. After your have cleared up any allegations made against you, your next step is knocking down the accounts on your credit report. It is time to save money.

If you do not have a credit history, it is time to get started. Building credit is essential for your future survival. If you do not have a credit history, you might want to start by applying for a personal loan or else a credit card. If you are turned down, ask a family member or friend to co-sign with you to get the loan or credit card. Make sure your family member or friend has established credit and their history is not delinquent.

Once you get the card or loan, make sure you meet each month’s installments. If you miss any payments the co-signers are responsible to pick up the tab. do not make enemies, pay your dues on time. After about six months of using your credit card or else paying on the loan you will have notoriety and able to apply for credit cards or loans in your own name. It is important that you continue working and remain in a home.

Lenders often question stability and if you are moving around from home to home or else switching jobs the lenders are less likely to lend you money or credit. After about one year, you will have built your credit if you continue this procedure and can then apply for a home mortgage loan or car loan. It depends on your income and age when bank lenders investigate your case to determine if you qualify for a loan.

Therefore, if you are in your forties and just getting started building credit your applications will take longer for consideration. Getting started early is the trick to building a stable credit history. Now if you have a credit history already you want to maintain payments to avoid complications. Once you establish a bad credit history, it is harder to get back on your feet again. The best solution for maintaining, building, or else reestablishing credit history is to keep a close monitoring system on your financial tabs.

If you are working everyday and your base income per week is around $300 it is important that you find a budgeting system that works with your pay. Do not take more than you need. If you have a base income of $300 keep your spending below that base pay to build credit, maintain credit or else repair your credit history. Remember, credit history is important to your future and nowadays everyone judges you by your credit.

Credit is said to be a system of buying and selling without immediate payment or security. Credit may be in the form of credit cards or loans.

Any individual who desires to process a credit card or loan application will have to abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the lender. An important factor for any credit application to be approved is your credit score.

A credit score is the determinant factor of lending institutions whether or not you will be granted credit. Your existing credit status as well as your past credit standing makes up for a credit score.

Every nation has a standard credit score to follow to determine the country’s financial condition. The United States has a national average credit score somewhere from 580 to 650. You will most likely be granted with credit requests if you have a high credit score.

Since the credit score is highly significant for you to obtain credits as well as balance the national average credit score, there are things you must do.

Seek help from experts

Do not be overwhelmed by low interests or other attractive credit offers by lending institutions. It is best to consult an expert before you close an agreement with a positive notion.

Financial consultants will help you properly handle your finances. He is responsible in showing you the status of your finances. He may also be your source of assistance on matters about getting credits. He will most likely advise you on the pros and cons of getting credits and the many requirements lending institutions need before they come up with a decision.

Do not let your due date slip

When you pay your bills on time or before its due date, you are establishing good credit standing. Another advantage when you are paying ahead of time is that you are also making your balances low.

Late payments of bill will not only give lending institutions bad impressions of you but it can also be unfavorable to maintaining a high credit score. To avoid late payments, it is best to keep track of due dates. Prompt yourself that it is “pay time,” a week before your credit’s due date.

Keep your interest low

Credit interests establish how good or bad your credit score is as well as the national average credit score. With low credit interests you are likely to maintain good credit standing.

It is recommended that you take on a survey among lending institutions on the credit interest they give. Upon doing your survey, choose which ones can give you low interest yet will still offer you good-quality of service.

Consolidate

To undergo consolidation is usually common to individuals who experience trouble paying off unpaid debts to their lenders. Consolidation is recommended for such people to unburden them of too much paying pressure.

Evaluate and re-evaluate

Be your own accountant. Do not let financial problems pile up, instead of waiting for credit reports to be mailed at the foot of your door, make your own. By doing so, you are updated concerning your credit reports.

Self-evaluation of your credit report will help you gauge how much credit scores you still have. Nowadays if you wish to have free consultations regarding your credit reports, you can always go online and find one.

Keeping yourself on the right credit score track will not only help you maintain a good credit standing, it will also help your nation maintain a good average credit score. Having so will stabilize the economy.

Looking for a loan product despite a poor credit rating? You can get a bad credit personal loan if you know where to look and what to offer lenders. With so many individuals having bad credit but still wanting to borrow, banks know they have an audience for more expensive loan products.

Bad credit personal loans can be pretty painful. You’ll pay a high interest rate, with high fees if you are late or default. You may have to pay a prepayment penalty, which means if you pay off the loan early, you still have to pay the bank a chunk of the interest in addition to the principal balance. And, you might have trouble without offering some kind of collateral, since an unsecured loan puts the bank in a very precarious position. Still, there are ways to borrow money even with bad credit.

Try to decide beforehand what you want the loan for, so you don’t just spend it all without knowing where the cash went. If you don’t really need the cash for a specific reason, you might hold off until you have rebuilt your credit and can get better interest rates and terms from a bank. Using the loan for debt consolidation is always a good reason, but only if you then close the credit cards or other debts that the loan pays off – instead of just adding more to your debt burden!

Before you start applying for loans, find the best lender with the most favorable terms. At the bottom of this page we have a list of lenders who offer a wide variety of loan programs to choose from, regardless of your credit. You’ll want to look at the fine print too. Ask about these fees and charges:

- Are you paying an up front application fee or processing fee? Is there a fee to pull your credit?

- What is the interest rate? What is the APR (annual percentage rate)? Are they significantly different?

- Do you have to provide collateral for this loan, or is it unsecured? (How bad your credit is may determine whether the lender needs security or not.)

- How long until I have a decision? How long until you disburse the loan funds?

- If you turn me down, do you have a related company that can do the loan?

Don’t just look at the monthly payment, because many hidden fees and charges can be included. Make sure you compare all loan products before you apply with any particular lender – each time you apply for a loan, you will impact your credit score, so keep it to a minimum!

If you get turned down for unsecured credit, you might want to take a month or two and take steps to improve your credit. You can take steps that show results within just couple months.

Trying to find bad credit personal loans is a catch-22; you have bad credit, and want to reestablish a good credit history, but no lenders will extend you credit because you have bad credit! If you have damaged credit, you’ve probably already experienced this problem.

However there is some help available. More lenders are realizing that there is a market for bad credit personal loans, for individuals who want to rebuild their credit by paying on time, with secured loan and credit card products, as well as unsecured bad credit personal loans for borrowers with poor or damaged credit.

You can begin to rebuild credit with secured loans. These are loans that are backed by your own funds, put into a savings account so that they accrue interest, but the funds act as security for your loan. For example, you put $1,000 into a savings account, and then borrow against it for a 12-month note. You make payments, and the bank holds the funds in case you default.

Nearly every bank will set up a secured loan for you. It might seem like it does not make sense to tie up your own money, but it does give you an opportunity to show you can make payments on time, and have a “paid as agreed” on your credit report, plus you get your collateral back at the end of the loan, with interest!

You can also use collateral such as your home to obtain credit, if you don’t already have a home equity loan. Some lenders will work with your bad credit just because they know that by taking out your home equity loan, you can pay off some of your cards, improving your credit score after getting the loan.

Another option is to get a secured credit card. Similar to the loans, you deposit a smaller amount with the bank, say $300 or $500, and get a line of credit for that amount. Many times the fees can be high for these cards, so check the terms, and how to get your collateral released when you qualify for non-secured cards.

Finally, there are lenders who offer unsecured bad credit loans. Using these lenders is a good way to show you can rebuild your credit, because the loan does appear on your credit report as unsecured debt. The terms might be high, but be sure to find out whether you can pay off the loan early without penalty and do so as soon as possible by paying more than the minimum monthly payment.

Remember to investigate and compare all loan terms thoroughly before you apply!

There’s a huge debate about whether someone deeply in debt should declare bankruptcy.

Some credit advisors say it is better to work two jobs until the debt is paid. Some advice (usually from credit counselors supported by the credit card industry) says that declaring bankruptcy will ruin your credit, and your life, for ten long years. (So will registering with a credit counseling company, but they don’t tell you that part!)

Everywhere you find credit counselors telling you NOT to declare bankruptcy. Look what would happen if you did that: You would hire a lawyer; you would file your paperwork with the court, you would have a reorganization plan put together for you by the court, or have all your debt discharged, and you would NOT NEED CREDIT COUNSELING AGENCIES. You would no longer be paying them fees month after month, nor would they be able to collect a percentage of the debt they get cancelled! So they have a personal, vested interest in getting you to avoid bankruptcy. Similarly, the so-called non-profit agencies who do not charge you a fee must be getting their money from somewhere – and they are – from the credit card companies. You can expect they won’t tell you to file bankruptcy either – they will insist you try to repay your debt, no matter how long it takes and even though that too will ruin your credit for years.

Let’s look at the facts: The vast majority of bankruptcies are NOT people scamming the system, but Americans facing serious financial trouble – loss of a job, divorce or major illness without insurance to cover the cost. Many Americans are living one or two paychecks away from financial disaster. So when disaster strikes, they can barely put food on the table or afford to look for work, let alone repay credit cards.

In addition, many people feel there is a stigma with declaring bankruptcy, that you are a failure, a cheat, a deadbeat. Let’s get rid of that stigma right now. In the business world, bankruptcy is called “bankruptcy protection”, not failure or cheating. Business gets “protected” from it’s creditors – other businesses it owes money to! How many times has Donald Trump declared bankruptcy? If it weren’t for bankruptcy protection, he wouldn’t be the rich man he is today!

Bankruptcy is there precisely to help American who find themselves in a hole too deep to dig out of. It is in fact “protection” for you too.

There is no shame in bankruptcy. It helps people regain their footing. It helps your family keep your home where you are needed, and start over with money in the bank. When you are in financial crisis, the laws of the United States have given you a second chance. They are there to HELP you.

If you are so deeply in debt that there is no way to pay all of your bills, for example you owe more than one and a half times your annual salary in debt, then getting a second job may not be an answer either, since you’d have to work two full time jobs to dig out. Given that if you are in this financial situation, the stress of this on your family may be too much for you to handle. If you are desperate for funds and then have to take yourself away from your family for even more time, or spend extra money putting your children into child care, then the burden of working more many be even worse that bankruptcy!

Bankruptcy will stay on your record a long time, but so will your bad credit repayment history. Bankruptcy can also mean relief right now, from constant creditor calls, from worry, and give you a chance to get a fresh start. Don’t write it off as an option, but consider it thoroughly and seriously with all the other debt reduction methods you are considering to get your financial life back on track.

More Americans are suffering under the weight of bad credit than ever before. Overextended on credit cards, mortgage payments climbing, fuel and food prices increasing, are all contributing.

One you get stuck with a bad credit score, digging out can be hard. There are a few products available on the market for helping people regain their good credit, but it takes some time and concentration to do the right steps and avoid credit scams.

First, you can call your credit card companies and try to get your card payments reduces, get your interest rate lowered, or otherwise get some kind of payment holiday. This can help you direct cash toward other expenses like food and gas for the car.

Next, you should close as many cards as you can. Having fewer cards helps build your credit score. And lower balances – not being maxed out on any card – also helps improve your credit score. By getting some concession from your credit card company, you’ll have extras cash to put toward the principal each month instead of just making the minimum payment.

Third, try not to take the step of borrowing more money to pay off cards. This usually backfires, as the borrower pays off balances, leaves the card active, and continues to charge on the card that was supposed to be closed. Unless you are getting a good low interest deal, don’t take this step unless you are committed to closing the credit card account immediately when you pay it off. You can also close an account that still has a balance; some card companies will then close the card automatically once the balance reaches zero.

Fourth, find a way to pay more than the minimum each month. List your credit cards and other debts in order of highest interest rate to lowest. Starting with the first card, figure out how much extra you can pay toward debt each month. For example if you’re willing to skip your manicure appointment each month, you can put the $25 toward your most pressing payment. This helps reduce the principal balance, reduces your interest, and gets the card paid off faster. In turn, your credit score starts to improve as well.

Last, don’t take out any more credit cards! If your credit is so bad that you can’t get approved, look on this as a blessing in disguise, because it will force you to live with the cash you bring home each month. Once your credit cards are paid off, and having learned to live on what you earn, your income will be all your own to invest and grow wealth for yourself and your family. Look forward to the day in the future when your payment plan will make that happen.

Getting a plan to fix bad credit is always desirable if you have a bad credit score. Without credit available, waiting a year or two to repair your credit record can seem like an eternity. But the fact is that a few simple steps can turn around your credit record so that you see improvement within just a few months. You can take these steps on your own with a do it yourself credit fix program, and without spending a lot of cash on a credit counseling service.

To start any credit fix program, you need to know what your current credit looks like. Get a copy of your credit report, but it can also be useful to order a credit report that includes your credit scores. By subscribing to a service that lets you see your credit scores, you can monitor improvement of your credit score while you begin your credit repair program. A credit score service can cost under $10 per month. However it’s not necessary to get scores to start fixing credit. You might consider checking your credit score once at the beginning of your program, and again after several months into your credit fix program.

What’s the most important thing you can do to fix credit? The hands down most important item is to start paying on time. Even if you have bad payment history on your credit report, starting to make current payments can improve your credit score within just a few months.

Another way you can fix credit fast is to close some cards that you have open. If you have credit cards with small balances or no balances, consider paying those right away and closing the accounts. Often, having multiple credit cards available to you can score against you with credit lenders. The sooner you can start closing some cards, the sooner they will come off your credit report.

It’s important to remember that most credit reporting agencies will tell you that it can take three months for a change in your credit file to appear. Sometimes no matter what you do it will take those three months for a change to show up and affect your credit score.

Another thing you can do to help your credit score might be to apply for new credit. That’s right: if you have very bad credit, you may be able to open a new bad credit account, such as a secured credit card, to give you an opportunity to start rebuilding credit. Having a new card that always shows a “current” payment history can be beneficial.

What if your credit is so bad that you have year or more of negative credit history? If you find yourself in this situation, you may have to take more serious steps. If you are unable to make your credit payment, you may want to consider bankruptcy. A rule of thumb is: If your debt if more than twice your gross takje-home pay, you probably will not be able to dig out of the hole (unless you get a second job). This is when you might consider bankruptcy.

If you have a year or more of bad credit, a bankruptcy will not make your credit history or score that much worse. Lenders are already looking at seven years of your credit history, and bad credit will make an impact even without a bankrtupcy. By declaring bankrtupcy, it could help lighten your debt load and give you a chance to start over with a cleared-off credit report. (Remember, though, that some things cannot be wiped out by bankruptcy, such as support payments or student loans.)

Also contrary to popular belief, having a discharged bankruptcy on your credit report can lead to creditors offering you new credit (at higher rates). They know you don’t have any other debt once your bankruptcy is discharged. As a result, your debt ratio, or the ratio of debt to income, is reduced when your debt is wiped out. You can find yourself approved for credit cards, secured loans such as a car loan, and even some other personal loan products in as little as a year or two.

Filing a bankruptcy can be expensive however. Most bankruptcy lawyers will provide a free consultation up to an hour or so for the first meeting. You can see for yourself whether bankruptcy is the right course of action for you to take. But attorney fees for filing bankrtupcy can cost $2,000 and up depending on your particular situation.

What about credit counseling agencies? First, beware of any credit service that promises to improve your credit score by 100 or more points within 30-60 days. It is virtually impossible to do this legally. In addition, you can pay significant fees for these services. Some non-profit counseling agencies will help you for free. However, you should know that many of these agencies are financed by the credit card industry. That’s why they can provide services for free. But they will mainly be concerned with helping you pay your credit card debt in full and on time. They will not help with secured loans such as car or house payments and will counsel you away from bankruptcy if at all possible, even if it’s the best option for someone with serious credit problems.

That presents an incomplete picture of what your options really are. They also may not tell you that registration with their credit counseling agency, and begin a repayment plan, also appears on your credit report, where lenders will see it and refuse to give yo credit. This is nearly as damaging as having a bankruptcy on your credit report!

Bankruptcy as an option is a very good choice for people who are not earning enough to pay all f their debt. You may discharge debt or sometimes enter a repayment plan that is court-ordered, depending on your circumstances. Either way, you have options that the credit counselors won’t tell you about, even though using their services can be just as detrimental to your credit.

The bottom line is that if you are trying to find a fast credit fix, there are absolutely steps you can take to see improvement in your credit score in the short run. In addition, many credit products are still available to individuals with poor credit. Taking steps to fix credit in the short run can help you begin a program to improve your credit over the long run, and see improvement can motivate you to stick with your credit fix program.

Are you completely bogged down with debt? Are you behind on payments, and feeling desperate because you don’t know what to do to protect your credit history? Here are five easy ways for you to take action right away to either start to improve your credit or protect your credit from getting any worse.

1) The first thing you should do is get a copy of your credit report from all three credit bureaus and check to make sure all of the information found there is correct. It’s possible that you could find that payment information is incorrect, that balances are reported incorrectly, or the debt you paid off is not showing as repaid on your credit report. Thanks to federal legislation, the three major credit bureaus are much faster to contact lenders and get credit reports fixed. They are required by law to respond within 30 days to any dispute you have with something on your credit report. You will likely find that they get back to you much sooner than that with a resolution, and will work with you if that resolution is still not satisfactory.

2) Prioritize your debt. You should list all of the debt you owe and the interest rate that you owe for each on a sheet of paper or on a spreadsheet on a computer. Once you have them listed, sort them in order by the highest interest rate at the top to the lowest interest rate at the bottom. You should approach your payment plan by putting extra cash into the debt balance that is at the top of your list. Try each month to put a little bit extra toward that high interest rate loan. By paying a little extra on top of your monthly payment, you will reduce interest as well as pay off your balance faster. Once that debt is paid off entirely, take the monthly payment plus the extra you were paying and apply it to the debt that is number two on your list. This repayment plan is sometimes called a “debt snowball” and can help you pay your debt years faster than if you just made the minimum monthly payment on every debt each month.

3) Find some extra money each month to put toward your debt. Whether it’s giving up the gourmet coffee every day, or taking a part-time job, it’s important to find a source of additional cash to put toward your debt each month. Some families have a second or third income which they put entirely toward their debt repayment plan. Other people take up an online business which makes them a little extra money each month, and they put all of those funds toward their debt. A good example of this is selling items on EBay or Craigslist.com. Tightening your budget is not that hard if you know you are spending extra cash on things that aren’t necessary, like extra meals at restaurants, manicures and pedicures, gourmet coffee, or any number of other similar expenses. Take a look at your budget and see if you can’t find 5% to cut and put those funds toward your debt repayment plan.

4) Don’t open any new credit. The best way to improve your credit score and get out of debt is to avoid taking out any more loans or opening any more credit card accounts. Since everywhere you turn you’re bombarded with applications for credit, it’s difficult to say no, especially if you are having trouble living on your income alone. Yet it’s important that when you are trying to dig out of debt, you don’t dig your hole any deeper. You can get your name taken off mailing lists by going to the direct marketing association website. For one dollar, you can enter your name and address and they will remove your name from all the mailing lists that go out to the major mailers each year. It doesn’t hurt the environment either to reduce your junk mail delivered to your home.

5) Be patient. Recognize that improving your credit score and reducing your debt can take some time. There are plenty of scams out there that promise to give you a brand new credit history overnight. Usually this is not only impossible but illegal. You can take small steps that add up quickly over several weeks or several months, and by following the tips above you can start to see an improvement in your credit score in as little as two months. Remember that most lenders report to the credit bureaus on a thirty day basis but it can take up to three months for changes to appear on your credit report. By being patient and focused on your goal, you will find that within six months you will start to see real changes and an overall improvement in your financial foundation.

If you think you want to find a credit repair service, and don’t want to do it on your own, be careful how you choose a credit repair service. With so many Americans struggling under huge debt loads, many “scams” have cropped up that claim to be credit repair services that can help you repair bad credit quickly, or start over with “new” credit.

These so-called credit repair services claim to “fix bad credit” – their ads are on the television, radio, and online too. They all make similar claims: that they can cancel judgments, bankruptcies, delinquent payments and other bad credit items, for a fee of course. Some even claim to get you a completely new, clean credit report.

Beware when you hear these claims – much if not all of what these credit repair service companies are offering is illegal! They collect fees, and in the end, your credit is no better off than before.

You can actually take real, immediate steps to repair bad credit without using a bad credit repair service. But if you are in way over your head, there are also legitimate credit counseling services which can help you. We suggest a few below. BE SURE TO AVOID ANY COMPANIES THAT ASK YOU TO DO THE FOLLOWING, OR THAT OFFER TO DO THESE THINGS FOR YOU:

- They tell you that you should file a dispute or verification for every item on your credit report – even if you know it is a legitimate debt. They’re hoping that a creditor won’t follow up, and that you can get the debt removed by going to court. After hours, day or weeks of your time in court, writing letters, and more, you will find that the creditor will win out and your debt affirmed. You’d be better off spending the time earning additional money to pay off your legitimate debts.

- They may tell you that you can obtain a brand new credit file using and Tax Identification Number (TIN) A TIN is used by a small business to track information for a small business. Your personal information is still tagged to the TIN, and trying to use a TIN to avoid your personal credit liabilities is illegal. Your creditors will eventually figure it out, and the credit reporting agencies will show your personal debt on the TIN’s credit report!

- Some firms might suggest that you refuse to pay debt, based on religions reasons (usury) or a supposed Federal law that makes credit illegal. If you subscribe to the same crazy theories that say paying taxes is illegal, and stop paying your income tax, then this might be for you – but understand that this too is illegal!

The only legitimate way to take on bad credit repair is to set up a good debt payment plan, and follow it. If you have too much debt and need to have some forgiven or declare bankruptcy, there re legitimate ways to do that. Just be patient, stick to your plan, and you will start to see results within only a few months – and you can get out of debt in fewer years than you think. Follow our Steps Plan by clicking on the button to the left, or click here to receive our FREE Steps To Fix Bad Credit report via email.

Instead of falling for a quick fix, read everything on this site and see if you can’t get started on your own. Below we recommend several agencies and companies who will work with you to put together a repayment plan and get the creditors off your back.

Remember however: Working with a credit counseling agency will also go on your credit report. And some of the credit counseling agencies below are funding by the major credit card companies – which means they will recommend against bankruptcy in favor of paying all of your debts, and will not necessarily work in your secured debts into your plan – your car or home. Be sure to discuss those topics with your counselor, and don’t hesitate to interview them first to make sure you have a good working relationship with the person you’re assigned – you may be working with this person for some time!
